As a native son of New York City, I am perhaps unduly sensitive to blackouts, as the City has suffered three major ones (1965, 1977, and 2003). The population growth reflects the common belief that the birth rate spiked after the 1965 blackout; although that was apparently convincingly debunked, I still think it's a charming anecdote. History might not have played that way; but in a more poetic Universe, it would have. :) The icon is of course a riff on the old standby, Polar Bear in a Snowstorm. -=-BhpG 2005 0630 |
