Top Secret
Hubbert Peak

Card
Text

Worldwide supplies of jet fuel plummet precipitously.

Any bomber in flight will run out of fuel if the owner rolls, on d100, higher than the percentage of
its max tonnage that the bomber has already expended.

All players affected roll right now. You may not recover a DCX that runs out of fuel.

Additional Notes and Information:

The Hubbert Peak describes the time evolution of the rate of oil production. Everyone agrees that the Hubbert Peak is real and that one day net production of fossil fuels has to decline. The turnaround in the Hubbert curve is sometimes called "the end of cheap oil" -- use of fossil fuels will become increasingly expensive and inefficient after that. There are, of course, a zillion different opinions on when the Hubbert Peak will occur and how fast oil supplies will dwindle after. If it happens slowly, the world economy will likely switch over to alternate fuels relatively smoothly. If the peak and fall is abrupt, well, that's probably the end of global civilization...

The actual Hubbert Peak is much more a bell curve than the one drawn in the icon.

We've gone back-and-forth quite a bit over whether newly-revealed bombers should suffer the highest odds of crashing, or if it should be bombers who've been out a while. We settled for newer bombers being in trouble, because the game play is more amusing that way.

It doesn't take much to see that this card is the bomber equivalent to Solar Flare.
