I know life’s too short a season
To mourn the futures that have died.
But I hope you have a reason
For pretending I never tried.
And I know there can’t be treason
Where there’s nothing to betray...
But the answer I saw in your eyes
Left me nothing more to say.
All I wanted was to know you
And to share those things you feel.
To lift the mask and see below to
Something special, something real.
But all the pain I had to go through
And still not draw too near...
Never before did I realize
I offer so much to fear.
