Dear Reader (if any):

Welcome to the first of the likely-to-be irregular editions of my own vanity press, which I have pretentiously named Voices in the Wilderness.  There are probably deep meanings in such a name but really I just like the way it sounds.  The explicit purpose of this is to allow me to get some of my writings out on the Web (the ultimate modern wilderness) and maybe share such wisdom as I have with such people as choose to hear it.

I have no illusions that this will become a big, a popular, or even an important site.  It's for me, in the end, although you're welcome to share the space.

True to the meaning of a vanity press, I will be the largest contributor here.  :)  If you would like to have your work put on the Web, and if for some reason no other outlet is available, or if you just want to be associated with such a cool project :), feel free to  email me . I reserve to myself the right to post or not post whatever I wish -- I will have complete editorial control -- but I will ask for no copyrights or other rights associated with your work.  Editorial decisions will be binary -- publish or not publish -- and I will never tinker with or change your work.  I might make suggestions; heck, I almost certainly will.  But I will not publish something with your name unless you explicitly want it in the form it appears.

I guess that's enough for now.  In future issues, I'll probably rant about the state of the world and such, because I like to pontificate, but you can safely ignore all that.  Oh, and this first attempt will probably have way more stuff than the "regular" issues, since there's a bit of backlog of stuff I'd like to publish.  I'm not really as prolific as it makes it seem.  :)

I hope the material you find in Voices in the Wilderness manages to amuse you, to intrigue you, or to make you think.  If even one neuron fires because of these pages, they will have served their purpose.

With respect,
--Bernard HP Gilroy
