A 35-star version of the US Flag

Happy 250th Birthday, America

Never in my lifetime, at least, has “if you can keep it” been fraught with urgency and import. Let’s see if we can pull it off. In the end, no one is coming to save us — not the courts, not the media, not the administrative state.

We’ll just have to do it ourselves.

But that’s ok. The American revolution has always been fought by the shopkeepers and the innkeepers, the yeoman farmers and the brash traders, the men who worked the field and the women who keep it all running. If all the levers of power are in the wrong hands, if all the elite institutions have been cowed or corrupted, if all we’ve got is the ordinary citizens, well, it’s enough. It always has been and, if we remain true to the actual Spirit of ’76, it always will be.
